My name is Mrs. Amber McKenna and I am very excited to be joining Collins-Maxwell Elementary this year as the School Counselor. This is my fourth year working in education. I have been a substitute teacher and counselor, I teach Psychology classes at Grand View University, and I have worked in the medical field as a Respiratory Therapist for the last 12 years as well. My husband (Adam) and I have one child, Apollo he will be starting 4 year old preschool this fall.
I have Masters degree in Counseling with a K-12 School Counseling Specialty from Drake University, a Bachelors degree in Psychology From Grand View University, and an Associates of Applied Sciences degree from DMACC, I am currently working towards finishing my Licensed Mental Health Counselor endorsement as well.
My goals as a school counselor are to give my students the necessary tools to help empower them to be successful in their academics, as well as their personal and social lives. I want my students and their parents to know that my door is always open, I am always here for you, I will never cast a judgement on you, and if I don't have the answers to your questions, I will always do my very best to find them. It is my sincere hope that you all feel comfortable coming to speak with me, I am excited to be a part of your school, and look forward to having a great school year. GO SPARTANS!
